Each MikCon pen is unique and custom crafted by Mike and Connie Hulsey of Decatur  (and Adamsville) Alabama.

Each piece has been hand chosen for its color, wood qualities or rarity.  Quality mechanisms are used and fully guaranteed with normal use.  All pens take standard refills that can be found at most all office supply stores.  Gel refills can be used in place of regular ink refills on pens that take Parker refills.  Fountain pens take either cartridges or vacuum cartridges- both are supplied with every fountain pen purchase.

Our pens can be made in any style or combination of styles shown on this website.  Custom pens can be made from wood from any source--gym floors, felled trees, parts of 'the old homestead', wood stadium seats, etc etc.  Email us for quotes. Such pens are excellent candidates for engraving and make perfect sentimental gifts for that hard to please person!

Our custom pens also make excellent fund raisers!  We have had individual pens made for 'silent auctions' to raise money and we can take orders for fundraisers in school colors in either Dymondwood (an 18 layer laminate that comes in many color combinations) or our custom poured acrylics that can be made in any color combination.  A three month advance notice is required for fund-raiser orders.

How to Care for your Pen:

Wood Pens:

Wooden pens are natural, so care must be taken to insure its beauty and mechanical attributes.

NEVER leave the pen in a car or hot, enclosed area.  Hot or cold extremes can ruin the pen very quickly.  Some exotic woods are sensitive and can crack if abused by such exposure. The pen has been well-crafted and should last for years, but not if neglected or abused.

Occasionally clean and polish your fine wood pen with a high quality paste wax that is designed for wood furniture.  Follow product instructions as if you were polishing wood furniture. Do not use harsh or abrasive cleaning products as they can damage the finish.

Acrylics/Resin Pens:

Plastic polish  (such as Clear Coat polish) can be used if the shine/finish wanes.  Light scratches can be buffed out with a plastic rubbing compound.

Acrylics are more forgiving of temperature changes but are more delicate in that they can be damaged if dropped or hit against hard objects.  They CAN crack if left to extreme heat.

Changing/Replacing your Ink Cartridges:

SlimLines:  Takes Cross Refills.  To change, Pull bottom from top section, taking care to not lose the center band.  Unscrew ink cartridge and replace with new.  Push back together.

Cigars:  Takes Parker Refills- gel or regular ink.  Unscrew bottom counterclockwise from top and unscrew ink cartridge to remove.  Take care to keep the spring as the refill will not have one.  Fit the spring onto the new refill, screw back on, screw bottom back onto top.  NOTE:  A Cigar pen is a 'double twist' pen & will open in either direction to write.  Also, occasionally a gel refill may not 'seat' correctly in the Cigar style- please contact us & we'll replace the nib for you!

Classic/American Flat top:

Barons:  Takes a Hauser or Schmidt Rollerball refill.  Found at office supply stores.  It is best to take the pen or refill in with you- to make sure the shoulders (the top where it gets smaller) and lengths are the same.  The pen unscrews in the middle  (below the nib area) & the cartridge is removed.

Europeans:  Takes standard Cross refill. Grasping both ends, pull apart gently.  Unscrew cartridge and replace with new.  Push back together.

Statesman:

Emperor:

Sierra:  Takes Parker refills-- either ball point or gel.

Panache:

Teachers' Pens:  Takes 'mini' pen refills- can be found two ways:  At office supply stores, the mini pen refills will be in packs of 4 colors- red, blue, green and black.  (the same type that the fat Bic click top 4 color pens will use) or you can find them in packs of 2 in individual colors at Hobby Lobby in the drafting/drawing department.

Sketch/Artist/Workshop Pencils:   Takes 1/4" lead- can be found in art supply stores or contact us and we'll order a supply for you.  Also available are sets of 5 different colored leads.
