Mike, turning outside on the full size lathe
Mike Hulsey, a native Alabamian, has worked with wood in some form almost all his life, always experimenting. In 2005, he discovered the art of pen turning and hasn't looked back! Since that time, he and wife Connie have ventured into creating their own resins in unique color combinations not found commercially. These have been especially popular with the Auburn and Alabama fans across the state! Mike is constantly striving to make the best product possible, only using quality parts and devising his own finishing technique.
Like many other artists, Mike is never completely satisified with his work, always reaching for that next level, always striving for ...something more. This usually results in pleasant surprises, both for himself and the collectors of his work! MikCon Creations is a continually evolving body of work always adding new styles, new materials and new techniques resulting in satisfied customers who look forward to seeing him at their favorite shows to view his latest designs.
Since branching out to more shows, Mike has been approached by various art museum directors as well as show promoters for 'art only' shows-- a testament that his work is not just a 'craft', but art as well. The time he puts into designing and creating segmented and interwoven pens pays off in beautiful, handheld pieces of art. He was chosen to exhibit at the Huntsville Museum of Art during a fundraiser and at the Carnegie Art Musuem in Decatur AL.
His work is truly Hand Held Art!!
